The second Conference for the Technical Cooperation Project Among the Industrial Property Offices of the OIC Member States was held in Casablanca on July 11-13, 2007.

The second Conference for the Technical Cooperation Project Among the Industrial Property Offices of the OIC Member States was held in Casablanca on July 11-13, 2007.

The Conference was organized in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT), and the Morocco Patent Office (OMPIC) in line with the decisions of the first Conference in Ankara that was held on December 14-15, 2006.

The purpose of the Conference was to finalize the business plans that were drafted by the TPI and OMPIC in accordance with the responses of the Member States to the surveys on institutional capacity and information technologies.

The following OIC Member States, Albania, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gabon, GCC, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, and Uzbekistan have participated the Conference. Besides, the representatives from the Moroccan Ministries of Industry, Trade, Foreign Affairs, Customs, and Justice, resident representatives of OIC in Rabat, Assistant General Secretary of OIC, representatives of WIPO and the ICDT have also participated in the Conference.

The speakers mentioned the importance of the technical cooperation project among OIC Member States and provided information on the future cooperation programmes. The OIC Member States have presented their opinions on the training requirements of their offices and their countries. The business plans in this context that lists the activities under the sub-committees of Institutional Capacity and Information Technologies were finalized.

The business plan on institutional capacity proposes training items on geographical indications, industrial property policies, innovation and promotion activities, and training of trainers program on drafting patent claims and sanctions. The business plan on information technologies provide for two training programs on automation projects and Internet training for public.

The business plans are to be implemented within the two years under the funds allocated for the project.
