Technical Cooperation with Mongolian Patent Office

The Turkish Patent Institute delegation chaired by Dr. Yusuf BALCI participated in meetings on technical cooperation between the Turkish Patent Institute and the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia in Ulaan Baatar city of Mongolia in August 21-23, 2007.
Within the context of the cooperation protocol signed by President of TPE Dr. Yusuf BALCI and Mongolia Ambassador to Ankara H.E. Mr. Panidjunai KHALIUN during the visit of Prime Minister of Mongolia H.E. Mr. Myegembo ENKHBOLD on November 01-06, 2006, the meetings aimed to identify the content and plan the agenda for activities to be organized between the two offices.
The Turkish and Mongolian delegations made presentations about the current situation of IPR protection in their countries and discussed the details of items of cooperation outlined in the protocol. Furthermore, the Turkish Ambassador to Ulaan Baatar H.E. Mr. Ömür ŞÖLENDİL was also given information on the current situation of industrial property rights and the protocol of cooperation.
In the first day of the meetings, the Chairman of the Mongolian State Great Khural (Parliament) H.E. Mr. Lundeejantsan DANZAN committed the full support of the Parliament for the activities that will be performed under the cooperation protocol and expressed his hope for increased cooperation with the WIPO as a result of these activities.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia H.E. Mr. Enkhsaikhan MENDSAIKHAN expressed his pleasure for being the supervising officer of the cooperation activities and stated the necessity of training the relevant IP professionals due to increasing importance of industrial property rights.
The President of TPE Dr. Yusuf BALCI stressed that the IPR protection should be formulated to benefit the country’s economy through linking the innovation system with the universities, SMEs and the industry. Within this context, Dr. BALCI pointed out the importance of promotion of IPR through information dissemination in all public areas including schools.
The President of IPOM Mr. Namjil CHINBAT stated his willingness to cooperate with the TPE and indicated the details of the activities.
The parties concluded that the IPOM staff would receive training particularly on geographical indications and information facilities and established an action plan proposing the participation of Mongolia to the training activities to be held under the Organization for Islamic Conference Project that is co-chaired by TPE and the facilities of Economic Cooperation Organization. The parties established a Monitoring Committee that will be responsible for implementing the action plan, which will perform its next meeting in Ankara.
